Abstract:
Calcitonin has been approved for the treatment of osteoporosis and other diseases involving accelerated bone turnover for approximately 25 years. The most commonly studied and prescribed form is salmon calcitonin, which has a greater efficacy in clinical use. A wealth of well-controlled clinical studies have demonstrated that calcitonin preserves or increases bone mineral density (BMD) and reduces the risk of vertebral fractures in osteoporosis. Recent studies have indicated that while a low BMD is correlated with an increase in fracture risk, increases in BMD alone do not explain the antifracture efficacy of antiresorptive therapies such as calcitonin. Therapies that moderately increase BMD may reduce fracture risk by reducing the rate of bone turnover and maintaining the integrity of the trabecular architecture, resulting in the preservation of bone strength and quality in osteoporotic patients. An advantage of calcitonin that is not shared by other antiresorptive therapies is its direct analgesic effect on bone pain. Calcitonin has been demonstrated to be clinically useful in improving pain, not only from the acute vertebral fractures of osteoporosis, but also in Paget's disease, bone malignancies, and other sources of musculoskeletal pain. Drugs containing calcitonin may be approved for additional indications in the near future, and as more convenient routes of administration such as the oral route become available, the demand for the calcitonin peptide is expected to increase.

Bass Player Marking 11th Year at Rickey's

Bass player Carl F. Tandberg is an 11-year man at Dick White's Rickey's Restaurant in Alhambra and a 42-year man in the music business. Carl began his career in 1926 in Boston, Massachusetts. He played in many local ballrooms, restaurants and in radio stations WNAC and WEEI. In 1929, he moved to New York City. During a 16-year stay in the large metropolis, Tandberg played with the Jimmy Durante band, played vaudeville and toured the southern circuit with Al Wohlman & Company. He then played most of the 52nd street "jazz joints" including a run at the "Hickory House" with Riley and Farley the writers of "The Music Goes Round And Round". Next came a series of college dates with Bunny Berigan. In 1939 he did a vaudeville tour and cut a few records with the Andrew Sisters before recording "Miserlou" with Jan August in 1945 [sic]. In 1947 he met Frankie Ortega and aided in forming the famous "Frankie Ortega Trio." He stayed with the trio for 11 years playing at the Balboa Club in Palm Springs and Las Vegas, Reno and Lake Tahoe. Carl was thinking about retiring when he met Dick White, owner of Rickey's in Alhambra and decided to accept his offer of playing on weekends. Meanwhile Carl also joined the staff of the American Music Publishers. During this time he again became active in the recording business working with such starts as Lou Rawls, Frank Gorshin, and television's newest star, Glen Campbell. Carl is presently playing in Rickey's Sky Room with Noel Hylton and Sue Stevens. The restaurant is located at 323 West Valley Boulevard in Alhambra.

18. Israel Næslund (1841-1858), born on January 28, 1796 in Högsjö. He was the son of Israel Näslund and Elsa Ersdotter of Näs. He was ordained June 06, 1819 to curate in Hede, vacancy preacher in Hede 1822, again curate 1826, appointed preacher temporarily in Sveg on May through August of 1828, in September of 1828, he was appointed reverend in Hede, where he was then appointed assistant vicar March 03, 1830, entered into service in 1831. He was appointed vicar in Frösön on November 25, 1835, and entered service on May 01, 1836. He received the title "vice vicar", honor and dignity on August 17, 1836. He was empowered vicar in Torsåker-Ytterlännäs on February 13, 1839, entered service on May 01, 1841, was at head of the pastoral custody in Torsåkers gäll April 10, 1844 through October 31, 1846. He was for his parishioners a good teacher that understood and had the ability to put all to its best, and for his family he was a loving father. During his long term of service in Hede his health, through repeated colds, became bad. His explanation was that he only held himself to the cross of Christ, shows what kind of temperament he had.

Married at Östbacken in Hede on March 23, 1821 Johanna Gustafva Ruuth, born January 11, 1800, she was the daughter of the reverend in Hede, John Christopher Ruth and Catherine Maria Martinell. He died in Ytterlännäs vicarage from a difficult sickness on February 15, 1860.

Children: Johan Israel, born May 26, 1822 in Hede, reverend in Ragunda; Carl Gustaf, born March 28, 1825, priest and reverend in Arnäs; Olof Emanuel Näslund, born April 29, 1829, land surveyor in Härnösand, died at Ragunda vicarage September 17, 1906; Elsa Maria Elisabeth Näslund, born 29 April 1829 a twin of Olof, married August 07, 1855 to teacher and organist Anton Julius Winblad in his second marriage.
